Brief Guide to Health Safety and Welfare.
Firstly let me take this opportunity to welcome you and your unit, and thank you for choosing Smuggler for your Explorers this summer.
Smuggler like all large Scouting events takes a huge amount of Work to organise, and deliver from countless volunteers to provide the young people with a truly memorable scouting experience. The organisation is therefore split out into lots of Teams and the small part I play is to head up the Health Safety and welfare team. Contrary to popular belief this team exists and works very hard to make sure that all the staff, crew, visitors and most importantly the young people that attend smuggler go home safe and well having had a fantastic experience of Cornish Scouting.
The Health Safety and Welfare team is not a Security team and has the following responsibilities.
First Aid
Emergency Procedures
Risk assessment co-ordination
Crowd Control
Child protection
Entry control
Health and Hygiene
And any other safety related matters
On our website and at the Info Point once you arrive at the event you will find full copies of the health and safety policies, I suggest you have a brief read of them especially if the short guidance below raises any questions or concerns. Alternatively you can contact me on the Info numbers on the website.
All our rules, procedures, and activities at Smuggler are run according to: Scout Association POR, Joint scout and guide activity rules (were apropiate), Best Practice, and relevant factsheets and governing body advice.
